HOUSEKEEPING THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
On
arrival - Switch
for parking lot lights are inside the kitchen door. Turn on hot water heater and well pump in the circuit box behind
the utility room door. (They are marked with red.) Turn on heat breakers only if needed.
Please
review the following with all participants at the opening session:
FIRE
SAFETY
Metal escape
ladders are in each upstairs dorm closet.
Fire
extinguishers are next to the refrigerator and at the top of the stairs.
In case of
fire call 911 (phone is in the utility room).
It rings in Woodstock and the call goes out to the volunteer fire
service which is in the Valley.
Obviously help is a long time away; therefore,
FIRE PREVENTION is of utmost
importance!
Please, NO SMOKING IN THE
HOUSE.
HEAT - there is electric baseboard heat
with controls in each room. A setting
of 65 is very comfortable because the house is well insulated. The wood stove is also a very pleasant source
of heat in the winter. Directions for
using it are posted near it.
WASTE - sewage goes to a SEPTIC TANK on
the property;
There is no
garbage disposal, so please NO FOOD, GREASE, OR COFFEE GROUNDS go down the
sink.
NO PAPER
TOWELS, CIGARETTES, OR TAMPONS IN THE TOILETS.
They will eventually clog the system.
Kitchen
appliances – If
kitchen appliances suddenly don’t work, check the circuit box in the utility
room. It’s easy to overload the
circuit. Unplug appliances as
necessary. Extension cord that is to
the left of the refrigerator is on the living room circuit.
Cutting
board - the only
cutting surface is the center island.
Do not cut on the "butcher block" cabinet tops.
Hot
water – there is a
second hot water heater if multiple showers are planned. Instructions for turning it on are attached
to the second hot water heater in the utility room. Water is from a well and
may have a mineral taste.
Spills
on the carpet -if
wiping up any spill immediately does not take care of it, there is spot remover
in a spray bottle in the utility room.
Please do not allow small children to have food or drink in carpeted
areas.
Trespassing - please observe all "no trespassing"
signs in the area. Stay on the roads
when walking and do not go into the open meadow near the turn in the driveway
to The Dwelling Place.
NOTE: In spite of all these instructions, the
place is to be enjoyed! Hopefully, a
few instructions will prevent unnecessary problems.
